Their finest album to date.
This follow-up to 2014's 'Vultures' sees the Greeks head once more into familiar Stoner Rock territory. Monolith sized, down-tuned, fuzzed up guitar riffs combine the best of early Black Sabbath with Alice In Chains to give a sound that's so heavy that it makes a steamroller look like a feather.
Recorded during a 24/7 recording session, there's something hypnotic about the analogue grind of songs, like the epic eight-and-a-half minute Psychedelia-tinged 'Loose' or the massive riffs of opener 'Above 179'. These songs are in complete contrast to the frenetic, short, sharp, shock of 'Electric Carve' that's sees singer Dani G delivering some truly aggressive vocals. Also worthy of a mention is 'The Son', the other eight minute plus epic on offer.
Effectively combining elements of Psychedelic Rock together with some fat riffs, this is perhaps what The Black Keys would sound like if they jammed with Ozzy Osborne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. If you're a fan of this genre of music, then few do it better than 1000Mods on this, their finest album to date.
