To these ears it's not good, exciting or original enough often enough to really trouble the scorers.

Hevidence is the brainchild of Italian guitarist Diego Reali, formerly of Prog Power Metal band DGM. Following a range of experimental excursions into various musical genres, Reali returned to his roots and to what he does best – classic Heavy Metal. With 'Nobody's Fault', his band has undergone a couple of further line-up changes and morphed from Evidence to Hevidence. Reali is back with a new label and, we are told, "an even more mature and personal vision".

Hevidence are, it seems, "ready to take on the world" with a Yngwie Malmsteen and Europe-influenced Power Metal and Melodic Hard Rock style the like of which... well, we've often seen before. Therein, perhaps, lies the rub because as competent and committed as Reali and his troops sound, there is something that's just a touch too predictable and derivative for '...Fault' to be truly convincing. That said, there is nothing predictable about 'Note', a jaunty sub-classical instrumental piece influenced, one surmises, by "Boy In Black" Malmsteen, but clearly rooted in the tradition established by his predecessor, "Man In Black" Ritchie Blackmore. Ditto the album's first single 'Dig In The Night'; Europe may be the stated reference point, but it's Joe Lynn Turner-era Rainbow that most comes to mind – leaving one reflecting on the value, if you want to be original, of learning from the master not the pupil.

Even so, '...Night' is a storming track and there are certainly other enjoyable moments. Check out, for instance, the vocal intro and guitar flourishes of 'Ave Maria', the Hard Rock swing of 'So Unkind' and the great swaggering riff of 'I Want More'. Also, it has to be said, Turner comparisons notwithstanding (and there's nothing wrong with sometimes sounding like him), vocalist Corrado Quoiani has a fine voice and delivers a strong performance throughout.

'Nobody's Fault' is by no means a bad listen and these guys clearly know their way around the terrain. However, while you may well find AOR aficionados who disagree with me, to these ears it's not good, exciting or original enough often enough to really trouble the scorers. Hevidence may well be ready to take on the world (and good luck to them) but the evidence suggests that they are not quite ready to conquer it.
