The mark of a good gig is how quickly it seems to go by. Therapy? You bet.

Anyone seeing Warrior Soul recently will know the energy and synthesis achieved between the band and the crowd is something special. A live album cannot bring the full concert experience, but it is a lasting memory in a way that personal attendance cannot last and so it is supplemental and is not meant to be a substitute for seeing them live. This performance was recorded with Kory Clarke's new and energetic band in Athens.

Opening with 'Fuck The Pigs', which has always had a chorus that has been shouted rather than sung, Clarke taps into the crowd psychology from the first. This continues with another track with the same feel, 'Punk And Belligerent'.

Fireworks - The Ultimate Magazine For Melodic Rock Music

In fact, the whole performance features the heavier "death growl" vocal style favoured even more by Clarke recently, ever his finger on the pulse, keeping Warrior Soul relevant in the 21st Century whilst wisely keeping plenty of old-school retro, blistering guitar and Punk sensibility. The effect of this is to create a "let loose" atmosphere which immediately lifts the spirit of a gig into that zone where whatever the fuck is happening in your life you forget it for the next hour, losing yourself and staying in the moment.

By the time we hit '(Love Is) The Drug' the crowd is too far in to back out, lapping up Clarke's urging to "Let's get wasted". Since he has always lived a "hell for leather" lifestyle, no matter the consequences, he has authentic authority in such matters, getting the crowd to buy in and "let go" in the way we all need and crave at times. All too quickly we get to the classics 'Shine Like It', 'Love Destruction' and 'Wasteland'. The mark of a good gig is how quickly it seems to go by. Therapy? You bet.
