An overdose measure of Classic Rock through eight songs that also checks in with brief sorties at the Stoner and Grunge stop offs.

Not to be confused with The Scream Of The Butterfly a (The) Doors tribute act from Italy, although we are roughly in the same ballpark the hard edge of fuzzed guitars and swirls of Hammond Organ from Berlin's Scream Of The Butterfly could only point to one thing really, an overdose measure of Classic Rock through eight songs that also checks in with brief sorties at the Stoner and Grunge stop offs.

We're promised a record where the vintage and the contemporary collide, but at its core lies a sound that's essentially a homage to a time when Rock had found its feet and was beginning to stretch its wings. Therefore, be prepared for a trip back to when hair was long, denim was king and the flares were bell bottomed. A big clue comes in the form of the name Richard Behrens lurking in the background; the sound engineer for fellow Germans Kadavar, there's no way he's going to let anything that Scream Of The Butterfly produce drift into the mainstream or ordinary.

Delivering a robust and mighty volley of massive riffs, the onslaught begins with 'Solid Ground Shaking' where familiarity strikes with a vengeance; nods to Deep Purple's 'Strange Kind Of Woman' and the acrobatic riff from Led Zeppelin's (or whoever they nicked it from) 'How Many More Times', and a further riff just before the vocal starts with another touch of the familiar that I can't quite place. Having ticked a few boxes to hook us in, the bassy groove on 'City Of Splendours' begins a swirling journey that twists from an atmospheric and subdued opening to another riff-crammed package.

'Liquor Store' and its light-hearted flavour "I'm on my way to the liquor store" becomes an immediate earworm; be careful you don't start mouthing this one absentmindedly while in an inappropriate place, but do listen out for the time-honoured clink of empties at the end. At the back end of the record, 'I Can't Go' slows things down to the extent of lumbering along while hints of jazzy electric piano creep between the sustained guitar chords in what would be classed as an emotive ballad for Scream Of The Butterfly. Fair enough, they've spent the album trampling all over your brain, so may be fully justified leaving you with something that, by their standards, is much more calming.
