A beautiful set of songs, played exquisitely by masters of their craft, where old and new tracks sit happily side by side in harmony.

Formed in 1973, Sea Goat took influence from the growing Prog landscape of the time, but incorporated traditional instruments as well as the normal synths which gave them what was then a usual sound, merging Folk, Romantic and Gothic textures. Having played throughout the seventies and eighties there was then a hiatus until 2006 when the band got together again and the new age of Sea Goat was born. Since then, with a resurrection of energy and memories of the music they had created together, the band started writing once more whilst also revisiting some cornerstones of their past. 'Tata' is the culmination of this ten-year journey of their career.

Starting with 'Book Of Liberty', we are eased in gently with a soft, airy piece which is beautifully constructed with acoustic guitar and Torston Hartmann's smooth vocal only broken by flute and organ. 'Morning Glory' ups the ante and is a more energetic affair. The track, complete with haunting guitar parts, has an air of familiarity to it, partly due to its early Steve Hackett vibe. Speaking of familiar things, 'Friends' was first performed in 1976 and it has been re-recorded which gives it a new lease of life. The next new song 'Seasons' is proper old-school Prog straight out of the early Genesis style catalogue, whereas 'Fire Wheels' is an altogether different beast which blends a heavy guitar riff, powerful vocals and a Blues-swing type beat. Does it work? Strangely enough, yes!

Sea Goat have an amazing talent for taking simple ideas and expanding them into vast soundscapes whilst maintaining a grip on musical integrity by using clever patterns and melodies. They are Progressive but never off the wall.

'Water Pictures' is one of many high points, it's an inspiring and uplifting track that's so well executed. 'The Nearness Of You' has Tardis-like properties and though it's a new composition, it transports us to a seventies world of flower power, Hammond Organs, flares and turtle necks. The album ends with the instrumental track 'Lachrimae' which rounds things off nicely.

This album shows how Sea Goat have evolved, but still retain their original ideals of not being influenced by current trends. What we find here is a beautiful set of songs, played exquisitely by masters of their craft, where old and new tracks sit happily side by side in harmony.
