A fantastic collection of tunes with a warm and rounded mix that dips back into the past but sounds completely modern.

Palace Of The King should be a lot bigger by now. Over six albums and EP's, they've delighted with Classic Rock that's saturated with organ and this release is no different. Perhaps it's their geographical challenge, they reside in Australia and we know how difficult that can be; look at the excellent White Widdow, the answer may be to stay on the road à la Airbourne. Hopefully, this crop of songs will do the job from far away.

They set about the task with gusto. 'Dog With A Bone' is a tight, pushy little number with a screaming vocal and insistent guitaring (without missing the Psyche moments) that makes it clear they are up for the fight, and if you were worried the eight minutes of 'Back On My Feet Again' might contain excess noodling, it's just as vigorous as its predecessor, with perhaps a little more accessibility, so the atmosphere section is earned and a Tim Henwood solo sweeps it all away quickly. In fact, the second part is almost a new song with requisite break, a little Led Zeppelin acoustic campfire thing but becoming a rootsy piece of loveliness.

Elsewhere, we find a sinister sense in 'Fly Like An Evil', 'Horizon' is just simply pleasing and 'It's Been A Long Time Coming' is almost seventies kids team time Pop show fare – a rocking addition of 'Pop A Doodle Do Doo' perhaps. 'Said The Spider To The Bird' is a saucy Blues party with Honky-Tonk piano and organ, it's such fun, and 'The Serpent' has a writhing riff and rising organ line that sounds like they could tweak Rival Sons' nose and deal with the consequences – it's tough yet open and willing to please. 'I Am The Storm' may stay around a bit too long but it's in the minority, in fact, this is the only time it happens.

This album is a fantastic collection of tunes with a warm and rounded mix that dips back into the past but sounds completely modern; it's a stunner and just as good as those ballyhooed bands who make a similar sound. In short, this is the only Palace I'll ever bend the knee to.
