This would be a good buy for fans of modern day American Rock.
Skyline are five-piece Modern Rock band based in Turin, Italy with 'Nowhere Here' being their sophomore release following on from 2010's 'The Other Words'. The current line-up consists of Edoardo Pacchiotti (vocals), Gianluca Rindone (guitar) and Fabio Gagliardi (keyboards) with a rhythm section of Jari Bezzalato (bass) and Andrea Ramondetti (drums). The band's sound tries to mix classic Hard Rock with a modern twist heavily influenced by bands such as 3 Doors Down and 30 Seconds To Mars.
Opener 'Way Home' is an upbeat, riff-laden Rocker, the melody, whilst having a heavy tone, also has multi-layered keys changing the sound's depth, reminiscent, in places, to Shinedown. 'I Don't Care' is another "in-your-face" Rocker with a solid rhythm and Pacchiotti's voice is supplemented with the echo technique popular with the American Alt Rock scene.
'The Game' is a very moody song that's slower than the opening tracks, heavily intertwined guitar and keys ensure the track has a good feel to it. Title track 'Nowhere Here' highlights how good a voice Pacchiotti has, his continental sound adding depth to the track. A couple of tunes pass then the haunting 'Everything Is Wrong' begins a slow song that gradually builds and builds and contains some great work from Rindone on guitar. The final track 'The Sun' brings this release to an end with a solid song, but I can't help thinking that at eight songs the album had just got going and suddenly it's gone.
'Nowhere Here' is a good, solid release and the guys can play and compose a good song, I just feel the album is two or three tracks light from being a great release. There is definite potential here and I for one would look forward to hearing more from these promising Italian purveyors of Modern Rock; this would be a good buy for fans of modern day American Rock.
