Call the Dream Patrol and do it now!

Dream Patrol – is that what we get if we cross Prog Metal masters Dream Theater with the more Indie focus of Snow Patrol? It certainly sounds better than Snow Theater anyway! In truth, Horror film aficionados will already appreciate that the name derives from the eighties classic 'Nightmare On Elm Street' series, however, luckily for us the Dream Patrol quartet come to the rescue, 'Men In Black' style, emerging as a special force to combat mind invaders; their badge of office adorns the album sleeve and I want one!

A band that is truly transatlantic – made up of members from the US, Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic – they combine together to create an international Hard/Classic Rock (and beyond) style. They even have their own signature song, and unsurprisingly, it's the opening track; heralded by ringing phones, howls of some sort and a walking bass line, 'Dream Patrol' introduces a good old "if it ain't broke, why fix it" Heavy Rock opening to an album that contains a surprisingly softer centre, with the contrast of sweet and sour as well as light and shade, before signing off in a similar fashion.

'Tattooed Millionaire From Panama' proves another infinitely catchy cross-breed between some things which may sound familiar (Bruce Van Roth anyone?) and listen out for the rumbling charge of listeners rushing to check out the unfamiliar Bruce Dickinson solo catalogue, although they may find something more histrionic within its confines.

Off we go then on a course that shifts from poised vocals, a fine appreciation of chunky guitar riffage and a knack for a hook until the pace gets taken right down. 'Lost Child' channels an easy Country Rock direction, while 'Time Is A Healer' contains a rather untypical, dare we say, misplaced Hard Rock couplet – "slow down there's no need to hurry, take your time and say what makes you worry". The easy vibe on 'Is That The Thanks I Get' takes us into Eagles territory, but then as fans of the eighties 'The Comic Strip' series will appreciate, "everybody loves The Eagles".

With the plot almost lost, the driving 'Playing With Fire' draws us back and 'Haunted Tower' offers a further hint of the classy swing you'd find with the Deep Purple brigade; although the guitar seems low in the mix, this is a far juicer morsel than the current Ritchie Blackmore offerings.

Only one thing remains to be said – call the Dream Patrol and do it now!
