If you want something different and more interesting than the ordinary, then give Glitter Machine a spin.

Glitter Machine is not a name that I would associate with any genre of Rock, it's more like something associated with seventies Disco balls. However, I was yet to discover exactly how far away from the truth that initial idea was.

"The burning question on everybody's lips is just who the hell are Glitter Machine?" says the press release. Luckily, I can quench the heat with the answer; they are a British quartet comprising John McKeown (vocals, guitar), Dom McGuiness (guitars), Rik Hornby (bass) and Paul Stone (drums). They wanted a non-stereotypical Rock title, hence the whacky name. With two of their singles on YouTube reaching over two-hundred thousand hits, they already have a big following. In May 2019, they hit the live scene via their successful debut show which they performed at The Lexington in London. This came ahead of a wider tour planned for the Spring and Summer.

If you want to know all about Glitter Machine, the easiest answer can be found in a quote from the band – they "Make music... music is what we do." The first thing I personally notice and feel is that McKeown's vocals have an almost Jim Morrison vibe about them, and the album is akin to listening to The Doors with their seventies, Western/Country galloping rhythm. The group have imbibed some kind of psychotropic seventies aspect, then dragged it harshly into the 21st century. Switching from bare bones, no-nonsense guitar riffs, driving bass, solid drums and vocalisations, the guys suddenly and totally let go of seemingly any form, rushing into a frenzy of crazy noise that bursts forth with energetic madness. It's pretty unique and took me a couple of listens if I'm honest, but somehow it works.

The aforementioned two famed YouTube videos, 'Take The Pain' and 'Blackbird', both fit into the prior description perfectly. The latter starts with what sounds like a machine gun before the electric-guitar-sliding madness hits you, then suddenly the band pull right back to an almost acoustic level. The funky, bass-focused 'Shooter' has a smooth groove and it's a relatively calmer track you can settle into. Moving on, the quirks continue with the David Bowie-edged vocal style of 'I Don't Mind' and 'Sacrifice' to The Beatles-esque 'Kiss Your Life' and the more subdued closer 'Shame'.

If you want something different and more interesting than the ordinary, then give Glitter Machine a spin.
