Definitely a group with a bright future ahead.

'A Drop In The Ocean' is the new album from Last Flight To Pluto, a Progressive Rock band hailing from Cardiff in Wales featuring Alice Freya (vocals), Daz Joseph (drums), Ryan Barnard (guitars), Jack Parry (guitars) and Jay Lewis Kreft (bass).

Following on from their well-received 2015 debut release 'See You At The End', this album is a massive stride forward on every level, from the playing and song-writing to the production, and it's an absolute joy to listen to. Comprising six tracks that span an average of eight minutes each, you know there's going to be some challenging listening required to get to grips with everything that's happening, but I promise it's worth spending time with this record to allow it to embed itself into your memory. The group are clearly influenced by Rush and that's evident in the excellent opener 'Masheena' which has more hooks than a fishing tackle box. Freya's voice is clean and high-pitched, and she is quite unlike most of the female singers fronting Prog bands today. Her style might be an acquired taste, but she fits the group perfectly and does a fantastic job throughout.

'Time And Love' opens deceptively with an Indie sounding jangly guitar riff, but the worry it might be going in the wrong direction is soon alleviated when the power chords kick in and the song moves along nicely in a mid-tempo vein similar to Rush circa 'Roll The Bones'. 'The Kings Are Dead' is a real highlight with some amazing guitar playing as is the next track 'Coverland' which starts off like Pink Floyd before kicking into a jam between Thin Lizzy and Rush. 'Morning Glow' rolls along with some clever instrumentation until it moves into the epic 'Supergirl' which features more wonderful guitar work and a stunning end solo to round off the release.

It has to be said there is much to like about this album and whilst the whole band excel on their respective instruments, Jack Parry stands out as a guitarist to watch because his performance is spectacular. Last Flight To Pluto are definitely a group with a bright future ahead.
