Vice Squad / The Suicide Notes - Hope And Anchor, London (UK) - 13 December 2019

The Suicide Notes are fronted by Billy Tee (formerly of the Black Bullets and Junction XIII) and are a high voltage band with their roots in all types of Rock 'n' Roll, from Chuck Berry to Andy McCoy with a streak of Sleaze. These boys were around when being in a band was seriously dangerous for your health and, no-one telling them that times have changed, swigging Cloven Hoof out of the bottle, and announcing that "it's a time of good cheer and bad livers" as they delivered a slab of rough as a bear's ass Dogs meets Babysitters meets the Damned Punk Glam Rock. A mix of old and new, there were a few punked-up Christmas numbers for this festive show, before it was over in a flash. Maybe it was because most of the audience were men over fifty, but sadly Billy did not remove his shirt.

Vice Squad were the headliner and are like the bastard love child of Suzi Quatro and Motörhead. Beki still looks amazing in her PVC, studs and platform boots, with the attitude of Wendy Williams and the allure of Siouxsie she makes fronting a Punk Rock band look easy. The music is a given, but they also bring an easy humour to interacting with the audience, claiming it's the annual works party with snogging and fighting promised later. The audience were entering into the festive spirit, rucking and dancing with the inflatable skeletons in a danse macabre at the front. Amusingly, afterwards one slightly deflated skelly was left looking like he was vomiting on the front of the stage. With the police helmets and the tirade against the government it could be 1978 again. There was a nod to Uncle Lemmy with a rousing version of 'Ace Of Spades' at the end, and like most Punk numbers it was a riot and over far too soon.
