An album not only for Lizzy completists, but for all fans of guitar based rock. A real treat.

I've always had a soft spot for anything Thin Lizzy related and none more so than for Robbo – Brian Robertson has inspired guitarists the world over during his time in Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, and in Wild Horses with former Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain. What I want to know is - why on earth has it taken so long for him to release a solo album? Considering the musicians on this offering you couldn't really expect it to be anything other than a hit, but the quality of the songs is just immense and Brian will certainly quell any nay-sayers with this tremendous album.

As Robbo spends almost half the year in Sweden, it was only fitting that his band should consist of some of the finest musicians the country has to offer in the shape of Europe's Ian Haughland on drums, Treat's Nalle Pahlsson on bass, ex MSG vocalist Leif Sundin and backing vocals from Linny Wood. Add to this guests including Rob Lamothe and Chris Antblad and you've got a killer album from start to finish. With 'Blues Boy' - penned during the Lizzy years - a rocked up version of Frankie Miller's 'Do It Til We Drop', and not one, but two alternative versions of the Lizzy track 'Running Back' are enough to sell it to me to be honest, and that's before you get to the Robertson solo compositions which were recovered from demos from a bag of cassette tapes he happened to recover from his studio!

In parts Sundin sounds remarkably like Eric Martin in his delivery – not so much from his Mr Big days, but certainly from his solo albums. '10 Miles To Go On A 9 Mile Road', sung/spoken by Robertson himself, is a cover of a track by Jim White and whilst Robbo isn't a singer by any means, he does a sterling job on this track and his vocals work exceptionally well on this tongue-in-cheek number.

I know this may seem to some like just an album of covers and re-hashed old recordings, but it has real substance and if this album is the start of Robbo getting back into writing and recording, then that's a definite step in the right direction. To my mind, this is a must have, not only for Lizzy completists, but for all fans of guitar based rock. A real treat.
