Title

The long awaited comeback album from the 80s party rockers.

The long awaited comeback album from 80s rabble-rousing party rockers Black 'N' Blue has been a long time coming, the proposed release dates going back so far that it almost rivals Guns 'N' Roses and their 'Chinese Democracy' opus for sheer procrastination. However, a change of label seems to have been the catalyst for getting it done, and with just current Kiss guitarist Tommy Thayer missing from their original line-up - vocalist Jaime St James, bassist Patrick Young, drummer Pete Holmes and guitarist Jeff 'Woop' Warner are now joined by guitarist Shawn Sonnenschein – it's a pretty recognisable Black 'N' Blue sound we have here, albeit with some modern touches.

The bass-driven 'Monkey', for instance, has caustic riffs and a modern edge, but that doesn't disguise exactly who it is you're listening to, especially when you have a distinctive vocalist like Jaime St. James. Similarly the mid-paced 'Hail, Hail' is B'n'B for the twenty-first century and the catchy 'World Goes Round' adds a touch of The Beatles psychedelia to its sing along chorus. However, the album is at its best on the more faithful old-school Black 'N' Blue rockers like the commercial and Kiss-like 'Target', the well written light and shade of 'Fools Bleed' and the upbeat simplicity of 'C'Mon' and 'So Long', whilst the acoustic touches in 'Falling Down' make it another winner.

It's not all good news though as weak choruses let down both the title track and 'Angry Drunk Son Of A Bitch' despite the good work on the rest of the song, and the Kiss-like 'Candy' could have been a highlight if it weren't for the puerile lyrics. The short drunken frivolity of 'Jaime's Got The Beer' soon gets old, but sounds like a masterpiece compared to the hidden track at the end, which wasn't even funny the first time.

Despite the length of time this album has taken to make, the band from Portland, Oregon have only really delivered half a great album, but the better songs are worth getting it for if you're a big fan, and to be honest the production isn't too shabby either. Close, but no cigar!
