Sinner is back with another fantastic sounding album.

Matt Sinner and his “motley crew” are back with a brand new Sinner album and it is more retro-sounding than anything they have done before. I use the term “retro-sounding” because as I played ‘One Bullet Left’ it reminded me on almost every level of Thin Lizzy (at their best). The twin- (or as in Sinner’s case three-) guitar attack, the melodies, the way the vocals are arranged and also the way Matt sings them screamed Lizzy at me as the CD played. Now at this point there might be many who would make the mistake of seeing this as a bad thing; it just isn’t because ‘One Bullet Left’ is an album bursting with fantastic hard rock music, one that is well written, played and produced. These elements are all you can really ask of an album (and if like me you’re a big Thin Lizzy fan, then it‘s a no-brainer anyway!).

Opening the album with the rocking ‘The One You Left Behind’ Sinner immediately show their intentions which are (a) play some great sounding rock music; (b) have a good time whilst doing so and (c) do the first two things but not necessarily in that order. Following on from this great start the band blast out a song called ‘Back On Trial’, which to my ears is the best Lizzy track never to have been recorded by that band, it is so good that if it had been on either the ‘Bad Reputation’ or ‘Black Rose’ albums it would not have been considered out of place. The high quality of songs and song writing doesn’t end there, though. It just carries on with wonderful tracks like ‘Mind Over Matter’, ‘Suicide Mission’ and the heavy yet catchy as hell ‘10 2 Death’ – all songs where Sinner play their collective hearts out.

Ok. This album does not reinvent the wheel and, yes, on many occasions it sounds a lot like someone else. Yet it is done with such love and affection for that band and the songs are all so good, that I don’t think that it really matters one jot.

Sinner is back with another fantastic sounding album and one that I’m sure will bring a lot of joy into your lives.
