I really can't praise this album enough.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise I must say. A young English band with an average age of twenty that has the looks, attitude and chops to make it in the crazy world of rock'n'roll. To think that this is their third album already gives you an insight into how ahead of the years this bunch of Derbyshire guys are. You know, it's so, so easy to become jaded in this industry both as a musician and a fan and sometimes taking a break from music refreshes your inner demon, but every so often a band wafts in like a breath of fresh air and reminds you just why, if you have serious music in your soul, it's impossible to break away. Toxic Federation are such a band. Penetrating your senses with a spunky, raw energy, in-ya-face like a Mohawk punk on gonzoid pills, and biting, spitting and snarling like the twisted rabid dog/snake hybrid that wants to rearrange your innards, this is indeed very analeptic album!

A thunderclap followed by an acoustic intro on opener 'Clear Skies' introduces us to a maelstrom of guitars, bass and drums with rough-edged vocals from (apparently now departed) Mitchel Emms and makes their intent perfectly clear. It took me ages to work out who Emms' vocals reminded me of and then it suddenly dawned on me -- a very young Sebastian Bach. Not in sound, but in attitude and the timbre of his voice. His is a raw talent that you sense will get even better with time and usage. The whole band offer strong musicianship and arrangements that belie their age and when you consider that the album was self-recorded and engineered and mixed to great effect by the twin guitar attack of George Coleman and Jake Graham, it suddenly becomes even more remarkable. Having supported the likes of UFO, Diamond Head, Hot Leg and The Answer it suggests a very bright future for these guys (if they can successfully acquire a new vocalist).

Some of the songs have an epic feel like 'Distance' (already released as the first single) and 'Life Of Mine'. Other songs have strong riffs and good arrangements with nice harmonics ('Motorway Asylum') or heavy riffing allied to subtle arpeggios ('Self Inflicted Fate'). But every song you listen to offers something. JR Windsor shows great promise as a drummer ably backed up by bassist Alex Stroud and there's plenty of melody imbued in their sound. I really can't praise this album enough!
