Eleven excellent tracks on an album that rewards your attention from start to finish.

Myrath really is one of the most original and inventive bands to have appeared over the past few years and in fact along with Orphaned Land are one of only two purveyors of what has become known as Oriental Metal (although 'Middle Eastern Metal' might seem more appropriate -- Reviews Ed). 'Tales Of The Sands' is the band's third album, following on from the Symphony X inspired 'Hope' debut and the altogether more distinctively styled 'Desert Call' and considering just what a mighty release it was I am ecstatic to announce that album number three picks up where its predecessor left off, blending blistering Power/Prog Metal with traditional Tunisian music, vocal styles and lyrics. The end results are quite stunning, bringing to mind bands as diverse as Kamelot or Symphony X, while not really sounding like either of those two bands much at all.

While all the band members of Myrath are immensely talented, it is vocalist Zaher Zorgatti who allows the music to culture shift so seamlessly between Arabic styling and harmonies, and the more expected intricate Metal barrage. His ability to move from Khan-esque Power Metal singing to Arabic wails and styles is hugely impressive, but doing so as completely convincingly as he does is almost breath-taking and while you may have heard snippets of the Myrath style in many Western bands, their ability to weave orchestration and harmonies from a disparate culture means that Myrath never sound like anyone other than Myrath. It is tracks such as 'Dawn Within' or 'Wide Shut' that best allow this eclectic band to stretch out their musical scope, with the former containing a stunning mixture of traditional Symphonic style singing and overtly Eastern vocal sounds, while the latter uses the swooping strings to bring a slice of Tunisian culture to the strident riffs and battering drums. Add to that some of the more straight ahead (in comparison) tracks like 'Under Siege' or 'Time To Grow' and you have an album which not only moves with ease between approaches, but also continents. Myrath has once again delivered a hard hitting album that, thanks to some excellent arrangements and eclectic instrumentation also contains more than enough twists and turns to fully grab your attention time after time.

Not many bands have the ability to convincingly blend styles and genres, never mind cultures, Myrath on the other hand do it with such expertise that you barely even notice. Instead you simply revel in eleven excellent tracks on an album that rewards your attention from start to finish and immediately entices you to start the journey all over again.
