This album is the second of original material by Swedish rockers Angeline, following up their successful first effort ‘Confessions’. In actuality, the band started in 1987, but after recording a mini-LP and a single in the nineties, the band were hit for six when their vocalist passed away.

Guitarist Jocke Nilsson took over lead singing duties and the group soldiered on as a covers act, even making a covers album in 1997. A reformation to celebrate their anniversary uncovered the fact they had enough of a following to create the demand for an album, so 2010 saw them put out ‘Confessions’. Keen to keep momentum going, ‘Disconnected’ comes bounding out of the blocks with a well crafted slice of melodic rock, striking the perfect balance of melody, catchy chorus and riffs. This formula is repeated on ‘Falling Into You’, before the band open themselves up to a slightly more contemporary sound on ‘Take A Little Time’.

The emphasis is certainly on rock for this record, with twelve songs and none of them being what I would class as a ballad. There’s some fine riffing on cuts like ‘I Had Enough’ and the uplifting ‘Run Run Run’, alongside more heavier guitar work like the opening passage of ‘In Times Like These’. I’m not 100% sold on the title track because of it’s obvious Bon Jovi-isms. Give a nod to an influence by all means, but with a talkbox “Whoa whoa” at the beginning and, I kid you not, a lyric in the chorus that actually says ‘It doesn’t really matter if we make it or not’, that’s a bit too close to being back as a covers act for my tastes.

That aside, it’s not a bad song and the album as a whole gives you fifty-two minutes of solid, guitar based melodic rock with big choruses. That sounds like the sort of thing Fireworks and Rocktopia are all about, so I think the majority of readers would find something to like here.
