A collection of solid if unspectacular blues standards.
With a cover reminiscent of any budget Dire Straits compilation and a press release that name checks David Gilmour, Jeff Beck and Carlos Santana blues rockers Storm Warning are potentially on a hiding to nothing. Despite this inauspicious start the music contained within third album ‘Strategy’ is lifted above the ordinary thanks in the main to some quirky lyrics and the dynamic fretwork of guitarist Bob Moore, ensuring a collection of solid if unspectacular blues standards.
‘Strategy’ also marks the debut of new front man Steve “The Count” Norchi who acquits himself well with a smooth and warm delivery across highlights ‘Misspent Youth’, ‘Chocolate & Roses’ and ‘Break Free’. Measured use of keyboards and subtle rhythms keep things chugging along although it is never hard to guess what is coming next as Storm Warning stick to the tried and tested approach of the numerous contemporary blues artists that they strive to emulate.
