A thunderous, blasting and awesomely selected story-teller of the German metal queen's past 30 years.

God save the Queen! In this case He shall save a truly rockin’ kind: the German metal-queen Doro Pesch. 30 years ago – in 1982 (isn’t that unbelievable?!) - she joined Warlock and kicked the German hard’n’heavy-scene’s butt impressively with her unique and powerful voice. Ever since she continued without Warlock she represented herself as a true professional: imperturbably strong and full of love ‘n’ life.

Let’s make no bones about it: staying in this business for such a long time (most of all as a woman!), releasing constantly brilliant albums (such as ‘Fear No Evil’ in 2009), always staying grounded and continuing with all the love she could give to the music and her fans, Doro – is, in my opinion - one of the most admirable musicians ever in the metal music sphere.

So now the tiny woman from Dusseldorf presents her fans with a 32-track compilation. To be honest, I’m not really a fan of compilations due to the fact that every fan has different ‘under-the-skin’-songs and what makes a good, motley cross-selection therefore is always in the eye (or ear)of the beholder. I was therefore very positively surprised by this package. Of course a lot of the classics, such as ‘She’s Like Thunder’, ‘Breaking The Law’ and ‘Tausend Mal Gelebt’ are included and I suppose the selection mostly reflects her followers fancy, but what I found amazing is that in this case some songs sound totally different to what I’ve ever heard before. There’s a phenomenal acoustic version of one of my all-time-favorites ‘Rare Diamond’ and – even more impressive – seven incredible songs recorded together with the ‘classic night orchestra’ and ‘Let Love Rain On Me’, ‘Love Me In Black’ and ‘I Rule The Night’ are gleaming in totally new splendour and honestly: they knocked me for six!

The sound is fresh and well-mixed and anyway different to her last compilation ‘Classic Diamonds’, This 32-track compilation - also including a lot of personal notes in the booklet and three classy videos - is a great mixture of gentle ballads and smashing rock-hymns, even though I’d have added some other songs as well… but as I said above: every fan might think a different way. Anybody who thinks compilations are boring and not worth a purchase is definitely wrong in this case! And for those who don’t own anything of Doro’s discography yet, this is a brilliant introduction into her music. Those who own every album may well be surprised how diverse her songs can sound.

‘Under My Skin’ is a thunderous, blasting and awesomely selected story-teller of the German metal queen’s past 30 years of hard work and hard rock. Hopefully we’ll still be hearing a lot of this gorgeous blonde in the future. God bless you, Doro, you keep the true sense of heavy metal alive!
