Grab yourself a copy of this superb album as soon as possible.

It has been almost eight years since Paul Bonrud released his self titled debut album and in those intervening years Paul’s music seems to have taken on a slightly harder slant. This might be because Paul moved away from his home town of Seattle and ended up in Minnesota where he found a collaborative musical soul in singer Rick Forsgren (who has a four octave vocal range) and whose edgier take on the vocals seems to have given the melodic hard rock found on this new album a more cutting edge.

After an initial couple of listens of ‘Save Tomorrow’ I found myself replaying the debut Bonrud album, something I usually don’t do, as I think this can colour ones perceptions when reviewing an album and I don’t generally like comparing the past with the present. The reason I did this was that I remembered the first CD having a lot more in common with melodic AOR in its sound and style than the new album. ‘Save Tomorrow’ is certainly an angrier and tougher prospect when compared with the debut and I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t imagining this perception. Does that make it a lesser album? Most certainly not - because even with the more aggressive nature of the songs ‘Save Tomorrow’ still has more than enough melodies, hooks and great songs to offset the heaviness so readily apparent.

The album starts with two of the harder songs: ‘We Collide’ with its blistering lead guitar work, big hooks and killer drums and ‘Bullet In The Back’ which is a real showcase for the vocal talents of Rick Forsgren and whose powerful delivery drives these new Bonrud songs along. We then begin to settle into a more melodic vein with such wonderful cuts as ‘American Dream’ a track full of 80’s hard rock bravado, title track ‘Save Tomorrow’ with its big chorus (and which reminded me of Autograph at their best). ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘Blinded’ and ‘Torn Apart’ follow and again all will excite any self respecting hard rock fanatic, filled as they are with guitars, keyboards, catchy hooks and top notch musical performances.

With guest artists Eric Ragno, Richard Baker (Santana) and David Gross helping out on keyboards a co-production courtesy of Keith Olsen, a superb mastering job from Steve Hall (Madonna, Richard Marx, Alice In Chains) and a cover drawn by one of Marvel Comics best female artists Adriana Melo has Paul Bonrud and his musical cohorts putting together an album that I have loved and been surprised by in equal measure. The heavier approach of the music might have thrown me for a while but on repeated plays ‘Save Tomorrow’ has become one of my most played albums of 2012. The album screams its class from the highest rooftops and you’d be plain daft not to grab yourself a copy of this superb album as soon as possible.

Escape and Bonrud have done it again.
