The kind of record that brings a big silly smile to your face.

The Order is a new act on me, though this is their fourth studio release since 2006 and if ‘1986’ is any indication of the bands previous music then I have really missed out big time.

The band is from Switzerland and coming as they do from that neck of the woods, you might just be able to guess the kind of music that they play? Yeah you got it right (must be something in the water over there) because here we have another band that play melodic hard rock in the vein of Gotthard and Shakra and whilst not quite hitting the heights of the mighty G, The Order are no slouches in the hard rock department let me tell you and I know that most if not all of the people who read Fireworks would like this album a lot. The band consists of Gianni Pontillo on vocals, the particularly excellent Bruno Spring on guitars, Andrej Abplanalp on bass and Mauro Casciero on drums, who obviously get a massive buzz out of playing melodic rock and roll music, which they then go on to transfer into the songs found on ‘1986’.

Having the Gotthard/Swiss connection might have been an issue for The Order were it not for the fact that the songs on ‘1986’ are as good or enjoyable as they are. While they might not be (at the moment) in the same league as their countrymen, let me tell you that they aren’t that far away on the evidence provided here. Listen to ‘Power Of Love’, ‘Lonely Nights’, ‘A Kiss Under The Rain’, ‘Fire It Up’, ‘Why Dreaming Hollywood’(which is very Van Halenesque) and ‘Heartbreaking Rebel Blood’ and hear a band that have a strong character all their own with morsels of early Gotthard/Shakra/Crystal Ball mixed into the songs. And when played if you crank the stereo up to its full volume, then this album rocks - and rocks big time!

I have really enjoyed listening to ‘1986’ a lot because with this release, The Order have made the kind of record that brings a big silly smile to your face as you play it. It is uncomplicated, sounds great and is also downright fun to listen to as well.

Now I’m off to see about getting their earlier albums. (I need to win the lottery; so many CD’s to buy so little funds to get them all)…
