Might be one of the early releases of 2013 but is already in my top ten for that year.

It might have taken six long years but coming to a home near you early in 2013, we have the brand new opus from one of my all time favourite acts, the one, the only Pink Cream 69. And boy I am so glad that these five men are back with another big sounding, hard rocking CD full of great songs. ‘Ceremonial’ sees the Anglo/German five piece return to us with studio album number eleven and after living with this CD for a while and playing it to death, I can say that PC69 have come back “loaded for bear” and ready and willing to cause a huge explosion in your listening device. David Readman, Dennis Ward, Alfred Koffler, Uwe Reitenauer and Chris Schmidt haven’t ‘Ceremonial’ tried to re-invent themselves or the music we have come to love them for, instead they have once again put together an album of classic melodic hard rock, rock that always makes you want to hit the repeat button.

‘Land Of Confusion’ starts things off and as soon as it started to play there was an overwhelming sense of relief as I knew I was going to like this song and album. The track is classic PC69 with strong guitar riffs, a devastating rhythm section and finally those superb David Readman vocals. Following this awesome start we have the all out rocker ‘Wasted Years’ which has “attitude” written all the way through it. ‘Special’ is next and it’s the kind of number at which PC69 excel, great vocals once more drive the song and it has a hook to die for. ‘The Tide’ is a mid-paced ballad with some great acoustic guitar work from Uwe and Alfred, and as good as he is elsewhere on this CD I think that this is David Readman’s standout vocal moment on ‘Ceremonial’; he’s just immense on this track. ‘Let The Thunder Roll’ is another of those songs that PC69 do so well; it’s a rocker with more great musicianship and another chorus to revel in, so you just can’t go wrong. ‘I Came To Rock’ kinda does what the title says, it rocks, full of superb lead guitar fills and striking bass lines and PC69 fire things up into overdrive on this song and it would be a fantastic track to start a live show with (hint, hint). I would finally like to tell you about my favourite song on the album, the gem entitled ‘King For One Day’. The track has everything I adore about melodic hard rock, melody, harmony, memorable hooks, superb musicianship, classy vocals and everything in between, this song is just wonderful.

As suggested already, Pink Cream 69 have returned as if they have never been away. ‘Ceremonial’ might be one of the early releases of 2013 but it’s already in my top ten for that year - YES it is that good.
