If you love classy hard rock then just raid that piggy bank and grab yourself a copy.

Voodoo Circle is the band put together in 2008 by that wonderful guitar player Alex Beyrodt (Sinner, Primal Fear, Silent Force). The three albums made by the band so far ‘Voodoo Circle’, ‘Broken Heart Syndrome’ and newie ‘MTOWH’, have seen Beyrodt drafting in such hard rock stalwarts as David Readman, Matt Sinner, Jimi Kresic, Doogie White, Richard Anderssen, Dennis Ward and Rudi Sarzo as guests. The self titled first release (which is wonderful), was heavily influenced by the work of early Rainbow, their second was a more bluesy affair and had a lot in common with mid-era Deep Purple. Now, Voodoo Circle and Alex Beyrodt with album number three have therefore decided to complete the classic rock set and have provided a huge dollop of Whitesnake styled flavourings.

Does this detract or spoil what is on this album? In one word NO! In fact for me this Whitesnake influence running through the songs and especially through out David Readman’s vocals only makes the songs bigger, bolder and much better to listen to and I have, let me say, listened to this album a hell of a lot since getting the promo.

Starting with the forceful ‘Graveyard City’ Voodoo Circle for the next hour keep the listener entertained, engrossed and absorbed as they hit you with big song after big song. ‘Tears In The Rain’ just shouts Whitesnake and the performance of David Readman is outstanding. ‘Heart Of Babylon’ is ‘Still Of The Night’ part two (I kid you not) just check out those Coverdale screams and the superb solo from Alex for proof. ‘Cry For Love’ is up next and the way the Hammond organ is used on this track is just mesmeric; the song itself is a mid-tempo rocker, with a massive chorus that I just love. The acoustic guitar based ballad ‘Alissa’ is a departure from what has come before but again the performances are so good on the song that it fits in with the rest of the album easily. More Hammond ushers in the hard edged ‘The Ghost In Your Heart’ before Alex Beyrodt once again delivers a superb (Blackmore-like) guitar solo and David Readman sings with a commanding authority in his voice. ‘Bane Of My Existence’ is an in your face rocker, with more big hooks, big guitars and some BIG drums courtesy of Markus Kullmann. Title track ‘MTOWH’ for me is simply hard rock heaven, filled with sultry emotive vocals, melodic keyboard runs and a Beyrodt guitar solo that could easily be off the‘1987’ album; this song kills.

To summarize, if you love classy hard rock then just raid that piggy bank and grab yourself a copy of this album as soon as you possibly can, it is just so, so good.
