Title

Catchy tunes, heavy riffs, deep vocals with a hint of scream here and there.

‘Late Night Affections’ will make you ‘want more and more’. That’s the opening song on The Fright’s self-titled release, their third record in ten years. This German quartet wants to kick some ass with their horrock ‘n’ roll as they call it. Catchy tunes, heavy riffs, deep vocals with a hint of scream here and there. Actually, with ‘Late Night Affection’ you may, at the very beginning, expect even a bit of Blackrain-like shrieks.

The Fright seems to be one of those bands who were building up their audience on MySpace (RIP) and then, when it got sold, had to start again on Facebook. With 7,000 fans on MS and very sad 1,500 likes on FB you shouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t heard anything by them, in the past three years at least. Despite the little online luck these boys wish to become an unstoppable force, the sleazy horror monster to take over your soul.

Shame it doesn’t always work. Some songs sound very much the same and you won’t even get exactly a lot of that promised “horror” feeling. Don’t let the band fool you with their biography either! New GN’R ain’t happening, in spite of the obvious classic rock influence (‘Beloved Night’ and ‘Nightstalker Returns’). The inspiration also comes from HIM (‘Cemetery of Hearts’) or bands like Hardcore Superstar, Crazy Lixx, possibly Debbie Ray and a few classic rock groups. The Fright are also affected by graphic novels; namely Frank Miller’s Sin City and The Crow were included in two songs.

This horror-sleaze-classic rock/metal can work well enough if you’re really into Backyard Babies, Babylon Bombs and such. However if you’re a Deathstars/Hellacopters fan, don’t go this way. Not even the image is frightening enough to give this band its name.
