North London music venue The Garage celebrate 20 years!

The Garage begins its 20th anniversary celebrations this month with a host of events across the summer to mark two decades of bringing the best live music to North London. A truly iconic music venue, The Garage has been a rite of passage for up and coming bands in the capital since it opened in 1993, and the notoriety attached to playing in a space drenched in heritage is ever-present.

To honour the building’s history and contribution to live music, The Garage has carefully curated a series of events from June to August that represent the venue and its ethos, ongoing musical diversity and legacy. The line-up aptly demonstrates its place within the UK touring market; hosting intimate shows from established acts and growing festival and stadium headliners of the future, and the wide range of artists confirmed so far truly embody this momentous occasion for The Garage.

The Garage takes inspiration from its hometown with a show from classic London pub rock acts, Nine Below Zero and Eddie and The Hot Rods on Friday 21st June. Both groups were instrumental in the Capital in the late 1970s and early 1980s with Eddie and The Hot Rods, one of the foremost alternative bands of their time, making a huge contribution to the Punk scene, and Nine Below Zero, whose inspiration from Chicago Blues combined with Punk-Rock ethics made them one of the most original and exciting live acts in London.

Due to popular demand following their sell-out show at The Jazz Café earlier this year, Fatlip & SlimKid3 (both formerly of The Pharcyde) along with Pharcyde producers J-Sw!ft & L.A. Jay, and former Wascals MC K-Natural, bring Bizarre Ride Live to The Garage on Friday 28th June. Visually vibrant and aurally astounding, this tribute to the truly seminal hip-hop album Bizarre Ride To The Pharcyde reminds us why live shows were so important in the early years of hip-hop.

The Garage has always supported an array of genres and music from all corners of the World, and for its birthday it makes no exceptions. We welcome to the venue as we reach this milestone, Finnish Power metallers Wintersun, experimental Post-Rock quartet Pelican featuring a rare set from JK Flesh, hugely respected Miami Stoner-Rock outfit Torche and Australia’s Blue King Brown. We are also pleased to announce that innovative post-progressive record label, Kscope, will also be celebrating with us and marking its first five years by hosting two special evenings featuring some incredible acts from their roster.

The 20th anniversary will also see some hotly tipped performances. Indie Folk rockers from Baltimore, Arbouretum, have been critically acclaimed for their skilled musicianship and witnessing them live promises to be an aural sensation. JJ Grey & Mofro come to The Garage following the release of their seventh studio album in April. Their blues-tinged soul and frontman JJ Grey’s raw, honest vocal is set to be a standout highlight when they play the intimate surroundings of The Garage.

Dean James, CEO of MAMA & Company said; “The Garage is a venue steeped in musical history and the last 20 years have seen some incredible acts take to the stage. With this anniversary we are celebrating the diversity of artists and the venue’s value to the London live circuit, and we hope you'll join us to relive some of your memories and make some new ones.”

In recent years, The Garage has hosted shows from acts including; Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Artic Monkeys, The Undertones, Fall Out Boy, Paramore and The XX. The venue also sees an impressive line-up already confirmed for the rest of 2013 including Madina Lake, GUN and Spin Doctors.
