Fourth release by the Canadian threesome.

Last summer I was at a White Wizzard show in NYC and after the WW set I was approached by their bass player who spotted my Cauldron t-shirt. We got into a lengthy discussion about our mutual admiration for this Canadian threesome and how much we both were looking forward to their new release later in the year.

I've had the CD in my grubby mitts since the day of its release and am very thrilled to say it is everything and more that I was expecting. What sets this band a bit apart from their fellow New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal band counterparts is the fact that they have somehow managed to develop and now fully hone a sound all their own. We have heard the endless Angel Witch comparisons, but honestly, while I was an Angel Witch fan back in the day, Cauldron far surpass them in overall songwriting and production. On this, their fourth release, the dastardly duo of Jason Decay on bass and vocals and Ian Chains on guitar have come up with a stunning collection of speedy, yet doomy and melodic songs.

On opener 'End Of Time', Jason's vocals have a sound of urgency and desperation that I don't think we have quite heard on prior releases. Chris Rites double kick drumming is perfectly in the middle of the mix of that huge guitar sound that reminds me very much of the sadly underrated Witchfinder General. 'Nitebreaker', which is the first official video off the album, might be the most perfect song the band has ever written. Truckloads of Iommi like riffage and it is on this song that you do definitely hear the Angel Witch comparison...fast, heavy, and oh so melodic. This is one of the better metal songs I have heard in quite some time. Perfection in a word! 'Summoned To Succumb' is quite reminiscent of album number two 'Chained To The Night'...creepy, dark and gets deeply intertwined in your brain.

Other standout tracks are 'Burning Fortune', which strangely reminds me of the Crüe's 'Red Hot', and the title track 'Tomorrow's Lost' which closes the album. If you are a fan of the band already or if I have somehow piqued your interest in the band, by all means pick up the limited edition which has a second bonus CD, featuring a cover of 'Streetwalker' by cult USA 80s band Buster Brown.

Now if that hasn't won you over...there truly is no hope.
