Additional live document to 'Where The Wild Things Are' from the guitar hero.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the guitar wizard who initiated his outstanding career as a touring member of Frank Zappa’s band, Steve Vai releases a new live album from his Sound Theories Tour, a tour on which he brought two violin players in order to add a new dimension to his extensive catalogue. Although the recording per se already appeared on last year’s live DVD ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, the all instrumental songs contained on this album are those that were left out on the original accompanying CD to that DVD.
My question would be; why were they not included in the first instance? They are all brilliant, hence, I guess, the answer has to be limited disc space. As such, on this ‘second companion’ CD Steve treats us with fantastic classic tracks such as the opener ‘The Crying Machine’, the insane ‘The Audience Is Listening’ or, from 2001’s ‘Alive In An Ultra World’, the delightful and colossal ‘Whispering A Prayer’. The presence of violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun is strongly felt and compliments the outstanding abilities of guitarist Dave Weiner, drummer Jeremy Colson and bassist Bryan Beller, not to mention the god-like skills of Mr Vai himself.
To conclude, three breathtaking masterpieces from the definitive album ‘Passion And Warfare’ put the icing on the cake: ‘Liberty’, ‘Answers’ and ‘For The Love Of God’ and there couldn’t be a better way to let the listeners travel back in time reminiscing the year in which the album saw the light, 1990, and started giving Vai worldwide recognition and exposure.
The setting for this recording was Minneapolis, the date was September 2007 and the result brought the live DVD to gold status in the American and Canadian charts, which makes this second companion CD a must have for all Vai fans. May he live long enough to produce another 30 years of classy, tasteful and technique-challenging tunes.
