A perfect introduction to one of the less well known exponents of the female fronted gothic rock genre.

Amberian Dawn are part of that ever growing field of female fronted (operatic) gothic rock acts, that include the likes of Nightwish, Epica, After Forever, Lacuna Coil and Sirenia. Amberian Dawn have been around since 2006 and they have recorded four very good albums to date. Recently however, their original classically trained vocalist Heidi Parviainen left the band and the hunt was on for a new singer. Like Nightwish, Amberian Dawn decided that a change in vocal styles was the best way to freshen things up and out went the opera tinged Diva-like vocals and in their place came more rock friendly ones. These vocals are courtesy of the band's new female chanteuse Capri, who has blown into the band like a breath of fresh air and driven out all of the old vocal cobwebs and has then driven in some strong sultry powerful and highly emotive ones instead. So with Capri onboard, the band then decided to re-record some of their older songs (with her new vocals) as an introduction to their new singer and sound. And boy has it worked!

All the old favourites are here 'Valkyries', 'Kokko - Eagle Of Fire' (check out the video on YouTube), 'Lily Of The Moon', 'Crimson Flower', 'Come Now Follow' and many more. And with the addition of Capri's vocals these old songs now take on a new lease of life and I found myself thoroughly enjoying the new found force and vigour that the band have poured into every aspect of their music. Everything on this re-imagining of their early work seems to have had a high voltage electric current run through it. This fire sparks of new dynamism and energy scampering haywire and unchecked throughout the album's songs, the keyboards of Tuomas Seppala and the twin guitar attack of Kimmo Korhonene and Emil Pohjalainene especially hitting the bullseye.

If you're new to the band, this then is a perfect introduction to one of the less well known exponents of this genre. It also bodes well for future original music releases by Amberian Dawn.
