Most definitely a band to watch.

'A Fair Dream Gone Mad' is the debut album from In The Silence, a Sacramento based progressive metal band consisting of Josh Burke (guitars and vocals), Nate Higgins (guitars) and the rhythm section of Dennis Davis on bass and drummer Niko Panagopoulos. Offering up a heavy duty style that is densely atmospheric and at times bleakly claustrophobic, their approach certainly bears comparisons with names such as Katatonia, Anathema and Pain Of Salvation, although they would certainly seem to possess the ability and desire to carve out a niche all of their very own.

For a debut album there are times here when In The Silence display astonishing maturity and there is evidence of some top-notch songwriting skills. Memorable melodic passages ebb and flow with some crushingly heavy riffs and deftly executed solos, added to which at the forefront is Josh Burke's smooth and clean vocal delivery, which is notably easy on the ear.

Having started out as a DIY project, 'A Fair Dream Gone Mad' emerged mid way through 2012 and, gathering momentum on the back of some well deserved acclaim, has now achieved wider distribution via Sensory Records. Littered with intricate arrangements and layers of guitars courtesy of Burke and Higgins there is much to admire about moments like 'Beneath These Falling Leaves', huge sounding instrumental 'Close To Me' and the dark yet stirring melancholy of 'Ever Closer'. If they can further develop their sound and ideas on their next release then there is every chance that In The Silence will soon be recognised as innovators amongst progressive metal circles.

Most definitely a band to watch, it is to be hoped that we will see them over here in the UK in the very near future.
