Dalton - Göransson Arena, Sandviken (Sweden) - 8th December 2012

As an 80s kid I was too young during the heydays of that wild decade when my favourite bands toured and conquered Sweden each and every weekend, but the last eight years have suited me and all the other lovers of melodic rock as well; extremely well, starting off with the comeback of Europe in 2004, followed by my personal favourites Treat in 2006. Then we had Alien shifting gear and starting up in its original line-up again 2010 and now we have the comeback of reunited Dalton as well!

I was fortunate to see Dalton's sneak preview gig previously, at singer Bosse Lindmark's birthday bash. But to break it gently for you readers, you sure didn't miss much, literally! The "gig" lasted for less than 15 minutes and wasn't even meant to be public but it sure left me with an itch for more. The real comeback happened in my small home town of Sandviken during an indoor festival with the ever so mighty Scorpions as headliners and it was something completely different – that's for sure. After the show I heard that the band had been quite nervous, but if that was true it was nothing that the crowd of 6,000 (later 10,000 during Scorpions) could see nor hear. From the opening engine roar in 'Caroline' until the obvious encore with 'You're Not My Lover' Dalton gave us all everything they've got, which proves to be more than I could ever have wished for. The rhythm section of Mats "Dalton" Dahlberg (drums) and Anders Lindmark (bass) provides a steadier ground than expected, Mats' condition before the gig being my biggest concern, No worries!

He must have put in hours of hard work and practice before this gig! The steady rhythm combined with the smooth keyboard works from Ola Lindström and the flawless guitar riffing and well executed guitar solos from Leif Westfahl left no room for musical improvement, although it wouldn't have hurt with a louder and better sound. I'm glad to say the same about Bosse Lindmark's vocals as well. He still possesses that raw, energetic and yet melodic voice that we all came to love and he sure knows how to use it! Those big arena moves were missing but that would have been asking for too much on their public comeback debut.

I wouldn't go as far and say that time had stood still but the enthusiasm the band shows when they plunge into gems like 'Go For It', 'Losing My Mind' and 'Like An Angel' during their 35 minute set shows that Dalton is once again ready for bigger stages.
