Reissue of the band's 2003 album.

As these hirsute Swiss rockers put the finishing touches to their new record – that, as with the band's last release 'Jail', is to be mixed and mastered by none other than Beau Hill – their new label, Metal Heaven, has just reissued their 2003 album, 'Gasoline'. For those of you who might not have come across this band before, just like the facial hair they take their name from, their sound is a celebration of all that was good about 70's rock. Dodgy clobber and extreme hair fluff apart, Sideburn's take on no-nonsense 70's influenced blues rock is high on AC/DC 12-bar simplicity, shot through with some good ol' ZZ Top suvvern boogie. Add to that a good dollop of Aerosmith swagger and you've got some potent head nodding, dandruff bothering fun on your hands.

From rip-snorting, pile-drivers 'Trouble Maker', 'Rip It Up', 'Boots For Hire' and 'Gasoline' itself, to the slow burning grooves of 'Baby Don't Care', 'Walls Of Shame' and 'Giov In L.A.' and the hilarious, blues-harp infused 'Never Kill The Chicken', there's something here for every good time rock n' roll fan to enjoy. If there is a downside to all this fun, it's the band's penchant for ever repeating choruses, which do seem to be sung ad-infinitum on occasion: 'Black Sheep' and the title track are particular offenders. But hey, this is rock 'n' roll we're talking about here – where rockin', partyin' and shaggin' are far more important than lyrical depth, right?

Add three bonus live cuts, 'Slave To The Core', 'Crocodile' and 'Get That Way' recorded in France last year, and you've got something to entice the existing mutton-chop petrolhead (geddit!?) to make a repurchase. It just goes to show that there's more to Switzerland than chocolate, precision watches, yodelling and Gotthard now, doesn't it?
