Sure to bring a smile to the faces of those that love the band's previous albums.

It's been a long six year wait for fans of Brother Firetribe, since the release of their excellent second album 'Heart Full Of Fire'. The waiting is now, of course, finally over and I was very excited to get hold of an advance copy of 'Diamond In The Firepit', complete with its rather ghastly cover.

What we have here is, essentially, more of the same which is light, upbeat Melodic Rock with all the gravitas of a kitten being tickled; this isn't a surprise as any serious change in direction would not have gone down at all well. It's so well played and written '... Firepit' is extremely hard to dislike if you are an AOR fan, so why am I not bowled over?

It has to be said that there are no bad tracks on '...Firepit'. The melodies are good, the singing (from Pekka Heino) is excellent and the choruses bounce through your head like hyperactive rabbits. My only real complaint is that there's no real standout track like the title track of '...Fire'; nothing that jumps out, slaps your face and kicks you in the balls. What you're left with is an album of eleven very good tracks, which is no small feat, but no single song that the others can line up behind. This may seem like small potatoes, and I suppose it is, but there's a nagging sense of something missing.

As on the last album, BF have plucked a reasonably obscure film soundtrack song to cover. Last time it was Mike Reno's excellent 'Chasing The Angels' from 'Iron Eagle 2', and this time they've gone for 'Winner Takes It All'. No, not the ABBA song, but the Sammy Hagar classic from Sylvester Stallone's arm wrestling trucker movie (probably the best arm wrestling trucker movie ever made) 'Over The Top'. It's a neat choice, and the band does it justice, although you just can't beat Hagar's vocals.

'Diamond In The Pit' is sure to bring a smile to the faces of those that love the band's previous albums. It's got a great mix of keyboards and guitars and some excellent songs, but it does fall short of the high benchmark set by the last album. Nonetheless it's a choice release, and will certainly whet the appetites of anyone coming to see them at the last ever Firefest later this year.
