In a time when too many bands talk too much and say too little it's an absolute pleasure to have Battleaxe back.

It's finally here...a mere thirty years on from 'Power From The Universe', NWOBHM shoulda-beens Battleaxe have completed their third album. 'Heavy Metal Sanctuary' is a belter of an album that immediately quashes those troublesome thoughts of, "will this be worth any attention?" The answer is a resounding yes!

'... Universe' sort of ducked under the radar during a time of turmoil and change for the band and despite dribs and drabs here and there looked to be Battleaxe's final song. But these northern lads are clearly made of sterner stuff. '...Sanctuary arrives at a time when nostalgia is king, but thanks to a wealth of trouble a generation ago, Battleaxe can't exactly trade on past glories, in fact that's exactly what they're not doing. They must be applauded for getting stuck in and not trying to make a contemporary Heavy Metal album; instead they have shown why albums of their ilk have refused to vanish: great music will live forever.

'Hail To The King', 'Too Hot For Hell' and 'When The Devil Calls' all bring thunderous noise and rain down charging guitar riffs alongside Dave King's insatiable vocals. 'Shock And Awe' is aimed directly at the questionable tactics used by the most powerful nations in our world – most notably and obviously the U.S. military – making a brave Heavy Metal political statement. Mick Percy displays real hunger for Heavy Metal as he attacks his guitar riffs with rich technique and a wicked sense of fun.

It may be called 'Heavy Metal Sanctuary' but this is no safe haven; it boils with passion, power and anger. This is not an album for an albums sake, Battleaxe had something to say. In a time when too many bands talk too much and say too little it's an absolute pleasure to have Battleaxe back.
