170 minute package containing a wealth of bonus material.

The first thing that struck me watching this DVD was the hazy TV quality of the live footage, no doubt due to budget constraints. That aside there is plenty to enjoy from these metal masters as the band hit the stage and blast into ‘Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead’. Ralf Scheepers is a mountain of a man who commands centre stage like Rob Halford on steroids. In fact it’s uncanny that he even holds his microphone in the same style as he screeches into it! The rest of the band stalk the stage in true metal fashion and the camera angles pick up the guys throwing all sorts of shapes as they aim there axes to the audience.

For the best part Ralf Scheepers crowd conversation is in his native tongue and it’s not until later on in the DVD that he speaks English only to announce that the show is to have a worldwide release. Then again it’s Ralf’s singing voice that powers this band and the close ups of him blasting into the microphone show the man works hard at his craft. The occasional close-ups of the drummer Tony Black’s double bass drum work during ‘Nuclear Fire’ make for entertaining viewing but are few and far between. This to me was a loss as the man is clearly one of the best in the business as he proved with his stint in Annihilator, and all too often the camera catches the fretwork of Alex Beyrodt and Henry Wolter instead.

What is apparent watching’ Angel In Black’ and ‘Sign Of Fear’ is how tight a unit the band are when they lock into one of their many solid riffs.

The Epic ‘Fighting The Darkness’ has Pamela Moore - all peroxide hair and black dress - joining the band to add her distinctive vocals to Ralf Scheepers for a song that drips quality. It’s a welcome change of pace from the full on panzer attack of the majority of the set and a little easier on the eye as well!

One of my favourite parts of the show was ‘Hands Of Time’ whereupon the band place themselves on stools at front to play this atmospheric number.

A nice touch was having Mat Sinner, Ralf Sheepers and Henry Wolter sharing the vocal duties as well much to the enjoyment of the audience. Essentially this captures a Primal Fear show in all its glory, it was never about stage effects or camera angles but the raw power of the band doing what they do best.

As well as having the option of listening to the show in 5.1 surround sound there is a wealth of bonus material to add the value of this 170 minute package. There are 5 video clips from ‘Killbound’ to ‘Metal Is Forever’ plus various camcorder clips from various shows and candid backstage moments. Not to mention the making of ‘16.6 – Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead’, this gives an interesting inside view of the recording process. Finally for any fans of Randy Black there is his instructional trailer for his drumming DVD which makes for interesting viewing for any budding drummers out there!
