A good start and I hope a lot more to come.

Gregory Lynn Hall, as some of you will remember, is the lead singer for Roger Scott Craig's 101 South project; he is blessed with a rich, warm Hard Rock voice that made the songs on those albums and this his first solo work stand out. Also having Craig Goldy, Billy Liesegang, Jeff Duncan, Mike Turner, Johnny Navarro and the gloriously named Bandit Bellamia as guest musicians doesn't hurt on your first solo album either.

I have to throw a word of caution in though as I'm not a big fan of the raw and at times rough production and mix of this album. That said, after talking with Hall (interview elsewhere) and finding out that this album was done on little or no budget, in his home studio, with him playing everything except for a few guitar parts and solos, whilst also sitting in the producers chair for the first time, I will have to give the production the benefit of the doubt. That's because there is a wonderful potential that lies within the eleven songs that make up 'Heaven To Earth' because on the whole they do Rock and they are filled with lots of strong vocal melodies and superb guitar solos.

So gripes aside and onto the music which, as I said, does Rock and songs like 'Rockin' The Road', 'Stars In The Night', the Whitesnake/Rainbow like title track with its slow Bluesy vocal, the Thin Lizzy romp of 'I Thought I Saw Heaven', the slow burning 'You Got Me Runnin'' (with another superb vocal from Hall) and 'Ordinary Man' all show a singer who knows how to write, sing and perform songs full of muscular Hard Rock melodies.

In summation I have to say that it's a bit shame that the mix doesn't live up to the potential of the songs themselves and that with a better one, this album could have been a real contender for GLH. Next time however (and there should definitely be one) Gregory Lynn Hall and AOR Heaven should get in a "big name" producer to take charge of things, so that he can concentrate on what he does best which is sing and play the music; I fear this time around he had too many fingers in the pie. A good start and I hope a lot more to come.
