This is a splendid live album.

Live albums are always a tough nut to crack. After all, we're perfectly aware that the majority of the flawless live albums we once worshipped were enhanced in the studio before their release. And, as each particular live album comes out, there's always a group of grumpy fans complaining on the wrong – they say – choices of line-up or set-list, a particular gig or even the whole tour.

But with the Norwegian act TNT, it's a bit different as their new release '30th Anniversary 1982-2012 Live In Concert' is not so much of a portrayal of a particular line-up or era as just a wonderful nostalgic trip and live documentary in one. The material was recorded on June 2nd 2012 at the Clarion Hotel in Trondheim, Norway with the band backed by the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra as well as guests – Hank Von Helvete, Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, Dag Ingebrigtsen (TNT's original singer) and in-and-out lead singer Tony Harnell.

Opened with a classic prelude 'Fanfare For The Common Man', this album is TNT's "greatest hits" in the strictest meaning of the phrase. Perhaps the most widely represented album is 1987's 'Tell No Tales' – much of the 1980s charm and lovely melodies brought back with such classics as 'As Far As The Eye Can See', 'Everyone's A Star' or '10,000 Lovers (In One)', not to mention power ballad 'Northern Lights'. There are bits and pieces from the band's newer albums, too – from 'My Religion' (2014) to Mills-fronted 'A Farewell To Arms' – as well as some obscure stuff from the band's first two albums (from 'Harley Davidson' of their Norwegian-language debut to 1984 'Seven Seas'). Apart from this, there are also Ronni Le Tekrø's blistering guitar solos and some instrumental interludes ('Magica Lanterna', 'Sabre Dance').

TNT's '30th Anniversary 1982-2012 Live In Concert' is a record of an undoubtedly tremendous performance from the band and their invited guests, backed with an orchestra that only deepens the band's powerful sound and gives even more exposure to their trademark vocal harmonies. It's also a cross-section of the group's entire discography from their beginnings to the contemporary era; a good introduction to their catalogue for those not familiar with the less popular albums ('...Tales' and 'Intuition'). A treat for the fans? Certainly. But most of all, this is a splendid live album.
