Collection of good quality, well structured and most enjoyable songs that leave you wanting more.

I’ve got to admit that when I found out that I was due to review this album I got myself quite excited! What with guest vocals from the likes of some of the best known names in metal such as Steve Grimmett (Grim Reaper, OnSlaught, Lionsheart, GrimmStine) and Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle) just to name but two.

Influenced by such classic acts as Helloween, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden this new release is a must for the die-hard, power metal fans everywhere.

Empires of Eden is the brainchild of talented Australian guitarist Stu Marshall (Paindivision, ex-Dungeon) who brought to life the idea of combining some of metals finest voices all of which composed their own lyrics and melodic concepts for this album.

Opening track ‘Of Light And Shadows’ featuring Michael Vescera (Loudness, Obsession, Yngwie Malmsteen) sets the standard of this album showing off his soaring, quality vocals along with Stu Marshall’s impressive and extremely well structured guitar solos and has an interesting mix of both traditional and power metal.

Louie Gorgievski (Crimsonfire) who also features on the first Empires of Eden release and on two other tracks on this album presents ‘Enter The Storm’ which is the main standout track for me, even though it seems heavily influenced by the likes of Primal Fear and lyrically can be quite repetitive. However despite this, the catchy melody and chugging riffs more than make up for this. On this track and throughout the whole album fellow Aussie and promoter for Paindivision, Jasix demonstrates his incredibly powerful drumming techniques with an amazing sense of control and style.
‘Prognatus Ut Obscurum’ which translated means born of the spear features the great Zak Stevens who in my opinion has a great and incomparable depth to his voice which most metal singers lack. Stu again provides us with lightening quick guitar fills which will literally take your breath away.
One of my old favourites, Steve Grimmett who should need no introduction in my book brings to us a monstrous metal mayhem song in ‘Beyond Daybreak’. With a twin guitar sounding solo, Steve’s voice soars above the madness.

After several listens to this album I can only say that there is not one weak track on offer, however if you are expecting a new edge to power metal you will be sorely disappointed as you will not find anything ‘brand new’ but what you will find are good quality, well structured and most enjoyable songs that leave you wanting more…which is also another downside as there are only 9 tracks on this album.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album and am waiting in anticipation to find out if Stu Marshall plans to bring this project to life on tour.
