A joy and a pleasure from start to finish.

It's the age old conundrum for a band. For your first ever DVD, do you capture an outdoor festival with a massive audience and handsomely large stage on which to frolic gaily, or film an intimate club show which illustrates the raw energy and connection a packed venue of diehard fans almost always guarantees. Keen to spoil us, U.K. Progressive Rock (emphasis on the Rock) outfit Touchstone decided to do both, hence 'Live Inside Outside'.

The first disc of this 2DVD/1CD (which carries the same content as the "inside" DVD) set arrives from the Robin 2 in Bilston, a sixty-five minute 'Oceans Of Time' album launch finding the band in quite outstanding form. The cramped stage and limited light show provides a breathless experience, an up close and personal feel showing off the class of this band to the full. Lead singer Kim "Elkie" Seviour shines throughout, her easy yet captivating stage presence a joy; keyboardist and fellow vocalist Rob Cottingham backs her ably which, when combined with the interplay between dextrous guitarist Adam Hodgson, bassist Andre P. Moorghen and drummer Henry Rogers, draws you back for more and more views of 'Fragments', 'Through The Night' and 'Contact', while non 'Oceans...' tracks 'Corridors' and set closer 'Strange Days' prove Touchstone are no one album wonders.

Proving that further is the second disc where the band's thirty-five minute 2010 High Voltage Festival set pleasingly only repeats 'Strange Days'; three 'Wintercoast' tracks and 'Shadow' from 'Discordant Dreams' shows that Touchstone can master a less partisan crowd in the daylight just as ably as the Bilston faithful. Also included is an un-credited encore (copyright anyone?) of Tears For Fears 'Mad World' with Arena/It Bites guitarist John Mitchell. There is also a twenty minute good fun, but possibly one-time-view only, 'Oceans...' making of documentary.

This treble-disc live package really does offer not only two genuinely different, and excellent, live Touchstone experiences, but also value for money. Early purchasers can also find an EP with four different versions of 'Oceans...' cuts plus the previously unreleased and melancholically excellent 'Suffer The Little Children' – although that titbit has probably already sold out by the time you're reading this review. However don't let that put you off, for 'Live Inside Outside' really is a joy and a pleasure from start to finish.
