In the tenth year since their founding, Planethard have brought out their fourth studio album, 'Now'. It's not an album that's going to shower you with the glitter of originality but it's driven and heavy, characterised by a strong, chunky guitar sound and a muscular drum beat.
The band show their mellower side in 'Neverfailing Superstar' and 'Don't Say Goodbye', the latter of which brings in a more general Hard Rock style and some great vocalisation towards the end by Davide Merletto. There's a tendency for the heavy sound to become a little stiff and rigid but the rhythm flows better in 'Inglorious Time'. The higher pitched guitar on 'Shall We Be Safe' also provides a nice contrast to the otherwise built-up texture throughout the album.
The overall tone is pretty brooding, held together by the tight rhythm section of bassist Alex Furia and drummer Stefano Arrigoni. A little more diversity between songs to make them more memorable wouldn't go amiss; the band have got the potential with support slots for the likes of Gotthard on their Italian tour. Now all they need is a bit of energy injected into some of their songs.
