A great comeback release.

'Where Dreams Are Forgotten' is the sixth album from Sweden's Axenstar and they have decided, thankfully, to pull out all the stops for this new release. I say thankfully because on their last couple of albums it felt like this was (to my mind anyway) a band who had gone through a few personnel and line-up problems that had affected them so much that they just seemed to be going through the motions; the hunger and passion of their earlier releases was missing in action.

'...Forgotten' on the other hand sees that hunger return, with the band leaving their corner and coming out fighting with all guitars blazing. And as you listen to this newest release you can feel the energy returning to Axenstar's music and that always makes listening to Rock music a joy. So the minute 'Fear' explodes from your speakers, you can immediately hear the aggression and fervour again, that the band have re-discovered it and put it back into their music.

The whole album therefore is played at a fair old clip and songs such as 'Inside The Maze', the brutal melodic assault that is 'My Sacrifice', the pounding 'Curse Of The Tyrant', the brooding 'The Return' and the Iron Maiden meets Judas Priest sounding 'This False Imagery' sweep by in what seems like only a matter of minutes, but this only makes you want to play the whole thing over again.

I must also pay tribute to the band themselves; Magnus Winterwild on vocals and bass, Adam Lindberg on drums and Jens Klovegård and Joakim Johnsson on the guitars, who have (it's easy to hear it) worked their collective socks off to make this new album the best that it can possibly be.

It has been a bit of a golden year for Power Metal albums and Axenstar can take their place up there with the best of them. A great comeback release and it's nice to hear a great band once again firing on all cylinders.
