Covers a great many terrains, yet retains a strong signature sound throughout the album.
'The End Is Written' is the title of the debut album by Doomocracy from Heraklion City (island of Crete, Greece). The band delivers Doom Metal in the vein of bands like Solitude, Aeturnus, Candlemass, Memento Mori and Veni Domine. Needless to say there is nothing pink and fluffy on offer here folks!
Opening number 'Sadness & Hesitation' has plenty of blood and thunder, bass drum kicks and guitars grind together, and the voice of Michael Stavrakakis is quite Operatic which suits the music, though I did find it a little one-dimensional at times.
The sordid guitar riff on 'Faceless' makes this an atmospheric piece and although it lacks any real clear melody, it still penetrates.
The wonderfully titled 'Doormacht (Der Apokalytische Untergang)' offers slick percussion and super depressive guitars. Its musical template is based on a mood of discontent and intricate time changes. On 'The Celephais Curse', the band packs in a wealth of ideas and the more Progressive influence serves the song well.
Doomocracy covers a great many terrains, yet retains a strong signature sound throughout the album. Keeping the song count to eight is to be applauded, as the less-is-more approach means each individual song can blast to the surface.
