Simply a beautiful album.

Formed from the ashes of seventies band Breeze, South Florida sextet Dark Horse Flyer play a laid back, Blues-orientated style of Rock that embellishes a multitude of sounds and harmonies from Classic Rock and Jazz to Latin and Blues. The three guitarists in the band, Don Mularz, Scott Lane and John Tillman, waste no time in exhibiting their tremendous talents with the album opener and instrumental 'Hurricane'. Imagine if Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana and Jeff Healey had formed a "super-group", it would have been hard pushed to sound any better than DHF.

'Seasons Fours' sees things settle down to a more gentle pace with the relaxing vocals of Mularz and the hypnotic keyboards of Bob Taylor. The band is completed by the equally talented Richard Taylor on bass and Raul Hernandez on drums and percussion; Dark Horse Flyer are musicians really at the top of their game.

The title-track 'Breakaway', with backing female harmony vocals, is a smooth little number, sounding like a cross between Steely Dan & Dire Straits, whilst 'You've Got Your Reasons' has a Jeff Healey vibe and features several understated Blues guitar solos.

'Evil Woman' is one of the heaviest tracks on the album whilst 'Since You've Been Gone' is a tremendous ballad with laid-back Blues of the highest quality for the first two-thirds of the track, before taking a "left-turn" into Dave Brubeck style jazz courtesy of some phenomenal ivory-tinkling from Taylor which then reverts back to relaxed Blues.

'You've Got A Hold On Me' and 'No Good' with their Latin Blues feel and Hammond Organ would sit nicely on any Santana album. The latter track concludes the album and the solid rhythm section of Taylor and Hernandez get to shine. The haunting piano in the beautiful ballad 'Better Days' (which is sandwiched in between the latter two tracks) brings forth memories of seventies California and is reminiscent of the wonderful band Venice.

Produced by Lane and Mularz and mastered by the legendary Bernie Grundman (Steely Dan's 'Aja' and Michael Jackson's 'Thriller') 'Breakaway' is one cool sounding album.

You will go a long way to hear a better sounding album than 'Breakaway'; simply a beautiful album.
