All in all, a very welcome return.

Vocalist Frank Dimino first came to prominence back in 1975 as a member of Angel, alongside keyboard maestro Gregg Giuffria. Their self-titled debut and it's follow-up 'Helluva Band' portrayed a pompous, Progressive style before they began drifting in a more straight-forward AOR direction. The band dissolved in 1981, Giuffria going on to form his own self-monikered outfit before eventually finding success with House Of Lords while Dimino joined the Paul Raymond Project with the UFO guitarist and also sang on numerous Soundtrack albums. He eventually moved to Las Vegas and utilised his time as a vocal teacher as well as fronting a number of Vegas cover bands. Although occasionally touring with a revamped Angel line-up, 'Old Habits Die Hard' is his first complete recorded work in some twenty-five years.

For the recording of the album Dimino has recruited (from his Vegas band Vinyl Tattoo) guitarist Oz Fox (Stryper) who turns in an amazing performance, along with numerous other guest appearances from the likes of Eddie Ojeda (Twisted Sister), Rickey Medlocke (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Pat Thrall, Jeff Duncan (Armored Saint) and former Angel colleague Punky Meadows, with producer Paul Crook (Meatloaf, Anthrax) overseeing proceedings.

It's far from a nostalgia fest, although the keyboard laden 'The Quest' certainly harks back to the pompous Angel early days. The remainder of the album takes on a more straight-forward Classic Rock, guitar-driven approach, through the likes of opener 'Never Again', the punchy first single 'Rockin' In The City', 'The Rain's About To Fall', the frantic 'Mad As Hell', the highly commercial 'Sweet Sensation' and the old-time Rock 'n' Roller 'Tonight's The Night'. The mid-tempo 'I Can't Stop Loving You', the slow but heavy crawl of 'Tears Will Fall' and the mighty power ballad 'Even Now' take on a slightly Bluesy slant, while the beautiful ballad 'Stones By The River' introduces a Soulful, almost Gospel, characteristic to close the album in fine style.

However, the ultimate attraction to this excellent album is Dimino's voice, which has lost none of its power or clarity and sounds just as good as it did back in 1975 – the range he displays on '...Now' being the prime example. All in all, a very welcome return.
