Good, damn good in fact, but sort of pointless.

Now the first thing I have to ask is "does the world need yet another live Foreigner album"? Well no, is the honest answer! That is especially true of one that is a ten year old recording and pretty much unrepresentative of what the band sounds like today.

That's not to say that they sound different or even the songs sound different, but essentially back in 2005 Kelly Hansen was the new kid on the block (having just joined the band) and the now long departed Jason Bonham was on timing duties. Hansen is, without doubt, in the "Top Ten Vocalists" in any Rock genre in the world, however on this particular recording he is, well how should I put this... completely like the "new guy at work" – clocks in, clocks out not having quite discovered how the system works in order to make the best of it.

I've had the pleasure of seeing the band live with Hansen on a few occasions and over the years he has made this role his own with his stage presence and charisma adding massively to what is (effectively) an armoury of hits that any singer would give his right arm to have the pleasure of singing. It could be said that over the years Hansen has put his own stamp on these songs and, if Foreigner purists will forgive me, made them his own in a live environment.

Standard Foreigner fare such as 'Head Games', 'Urgent' and ' Hot Blooded' all get the treatment with an eager crowd lapping it up, and even the Foreigner meets Led Zeppelin (just for a minute) 'Juke Box Hero' sounds pretty damn good – mind you I'm sure Bonham's presence may have accounted for that little nod. The massive hit 'Waiting For A Girl Like You' is delivered and received exactly as you would expect, although nothing will ever come close to Gramm's vocal on this song which still makes the hairs on my neck stand up some thirty-four years later, whilst the Number 1 single 'I Want To Know What Love Is' is similarly delivered and received.

All in all this is a pretty good album, however as I said above, is yet another Foreigner live album an essential purchase? But then again, given the state of the record industry, a new Foreigner studio album isn't likely to happen either so if you are a fan, then this is another album you should have in your collection. But if you have just a passing or casual interest in the band, then it's not going to grab you, shake you and say "buy me". Good, damn good in fact, but sort of pointless.
