Only gives up its best when you really give it the time and the patience that it truly needs to work its mysteries on you.

Lebanon's Anuryzm have a convoluted history. Starting out life in 2003 as a group of college friends who just wanted to make music together, the band continued to grow as a unit, until trouble hit when founder member/guitarist John Bakhos decided to leave and moved abroad. Although the band did continue for a while, when their rhythm guitarist Bernard sadly passed away in 2005 they decided to call it quits.

Bakhos (now living in Canada and who had continued to write and perform music) eventually decided that he wanted to make another go of it and moved back to his boyhood home of Abu Dhabi. There he immediately set about forming a new band, contacting old school/band-mates for help. Bakhos then set about re-invigorating Anuryzm and its music and this new album 'All Is Not For All' is the third since the band reformed.

The music that can be found on this release has a dark and shadowy edge, one that mixes musical textures not a million miles away from Opeth and mid-era Anathema (when they were still a bit angry). Yet for all the darkness that can be found on songs like 'Depolarized', 'Mineral', the beautiful instrumental 'Oceans Apart', the barnstorming 'Impermanence' and the dream-like 'Perispirit', it is the melodies that Anuryzm utilize throughout this album that bring a bright illuminating light to those dark corners of their music and in turn makes what they are doing so interesting.

And as you listen to this album you'll find yourself deeply engrossed in the dramatic world that Anuryzm have created on '...All'. The production is also a major factor in the overall style of this album, its subtlety and warmth balances everything perfectly so that nothing is wasted. The further you delve into Anuryzm's music the more you'll find a band who understand that you can be both heavy and "dark", but at the same time you must never lose sight of the fact that this type of music equally needs strong melodies, musicianship and songs to carry it off.

I have played this album many times now and I can say that it is a grower, one that gets better with subsequent repeat plays. 'All Is Not For All' only gives up its best when you really give it the time and the patience that it truly needs to work its mysteries on you.
