Battleaxe are 100% proof that you can never put a good band down. More power!

Along with Alan Shearer, Newcastle Brown Ale and Venom, Sunderland's Battleaxe are one of the finest exports the North East of England has given the world. But not that many people know this.

Bursting onto the Heavy Metal scene in the early 1980s, Battleaxe made Metalhead ears prick up with their scorching debut album – with added notoriety thanks to a now infamous album cover – and a quickly followed-up second album. Decades in Heavy Metal Hell followed until album re-issues sparked an unlikely comeback.

After the re-release of 1983 NWOBHM classic 'Burn This Town', the brand new album 'Heavy Metal Sanctuary' and a storming turn at Bloodstock Open Air 2014, the Battleaxe resurgence is in full flow.

Thirty years on from its original release (and nine years since its first re-issue) Battleaxe's second album 'Power From The Universe', complete with four bonus tracks, joins the updated Heavy Metal canon that spills the weak pint of lesser bands.
The track titles alone are enough to get blood pumping and heads banging; 'Chopper Attack', 'Metal Rock' and 'Licence To Rock' make up a hat-trick of ungodly racket of top class Heavy Metal – and that's just the first three tracks! Joining them are the likes of 'Shout It Out', 'Over The Top' and 'Killer Woman'. Battleaxe are loud and proud, thanks to a throaty vocal, searing guitars and an irresistibly pounding Rock rhythm.

Coming so quickly after their debut it's no surprise that the rich vein of form was still in full flow as the steady trio of Dave King (vocals), Steve Hardy (guitar) and Brian Smith (bass) locked in their groove adding to NWOBHM's pedigree. 'Power From The Universe' is maybe not the classic that '...Town' is, but it's certainly up there with the best.

Battleaxe are 100% proof that you can never put a good band down. More power!
