Fetterman and the rest of the band are a talented ensemble that plays with great feel.

Jeff Fetterman hails from Pennsylvania and has a pretty impressive pedigree, including winning WREO Ohio Radio "Best Up & Coming Blues Artist" and supporting the likes of Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Molly Hatchett, .38 Special and Ana Popovic. 'Bottle Full Of Blues' is his second album after a fifteen year gap and rather fine it is too. Fetterman is a Blues Rock guitarist with plenty of feel and this Funked up Blues album is very easy to listen to, especially if SRV and Blues Traveller are your kind of bag.

'Paradise' is a Blues Funk opener which sets the tone for some superior guitar licks and Fetterman's gravelly voice, this leads on nicely to the equally Funky but more Bluesy 'Out Of Time' which has a Hammondy keyboard solo from Anthony Brown. Brown ramps up the Boogie on 'Southbound' and along with the harp of Otis James this is a band you could be down a few beers to in a jumping, smoky bar.

Title track 'Bottle Full Of Blues' is a smoochy, languid Blues ballad in the style of Joe Bonamassa; Fetterman channels a pretty good Bluesy Sammy Hagar on vocals. There's a change of tempo with 'Funky Candy' featuring the supporting vocals of Judy Kessler and some more Funky bass from Ralph Reitinger, this is probably the most hooky song on the album.

'Devil's Shuffle' is just straight old Southern Bar Blues. I really like the choppy Funk of 'Talk To Me', Fetterman soaks the voice in whisky and Kessler gives it some punchy top end. 'Down And Out' is possibly my favourite track; I like the groove and the John Popper-esque Blues harp. On to the smoother 'Wash My Blues Away' where the backing vocals bring a more Gospel feel, which then morphs into 'Angel Blue' and finally Funks its way off into the sunset with 'T Bone & The Ghost' which may become one of my favourite song titles.

'Bottle Full of Blues' is an eminently easy to listen to album and Fetterman and the rest of the band are a talented ensemble that plays with great feel. I suspect Fetterman will suffer a little from the fact that he is one of many great Blues men but his songs, whilst good, are slightly too derivative to make them stand out clearly amongst the vast field. To be fair, a good many of Bonamassa's songs don't necessarily stand out either but he got the break, so maybe Jeff Fetterman will too.
