A strong, cohesive album containing good, solid Rock.

Italian guitarist Dario Mollo first came to most people's attention in 1999 when he formed his project The Cage, featuring ex-Black Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin. The album was a great collection of Hard Rock, and Mollo used the same template of his music being paired up with the lyrics of a distinctive singer in 2000, when he put out the excellent Voodoo Hill with Glenn Hughes on vocals.

2002 saw him reunite with Martin for 'The Cage 2', and in 2004 he returned to Hughes for the second Voodoo Hill effort ('Wild Seed Of Mother Earth'). Things went quiet for a while – there was talk of Mollo teaming up with Graham Bonnet for a project called Electric Zoo, but unfortunately nothing materialised. After a long recording silence, Mollo returned with Martin in tow to complete a trilogy with 'The Third Cage' in 2012, and now we find him adding a third VH album with Hughes.

I wasn't expecting a new VH album, but for whatever reason, Hughes and Mollo have put together a collection of eleven brand new songs. I must be honest, after the first couple of spins I wasn't as enamored as I had been with the two previous Voodoo Hill efforts. 'All That Remains' is a good enough song to open with, but Hughes sounds quite restrained vocally. Those who don't like some of his histrionics may prefer this more toned down approach, but I know he's got so much more in the tank. He proves it halfway through 'The Well', a track which boasts a classic Mollo riff and sees Hughes start to cut loose with that roar only he can do.

'Rattle Shake Bone' powers along and sees Hughes much more like his usual self – although for those who dislike his screaming, I can only remember one scream on the entire album. The ethereal 'Underneath And Down Below' is a real grower while the title track is a huge, sweeping epic tune. 'Karma Go' is an energetic, gusty Rocker, while the bass driven 'Evil Thing' has one of the best hooks. The heavy 'Eldorado' is another strong effort worthy of your time.

'Waterfall' is a classic example of an album that should be classed as a "grower" – originally I felt it was a bit one paced because it didn't have a breakneck Rocker like 'Spun In Lost Wages' or 'Dying To Live' which could be found on its predecessors, nor did it have a ballad like 'The Golden One'. However, repeated listens have revealed a strong, cohesive album containing good, solid Rock. A pleasant surprise after such a long absence!
