Stone Broken - The Iron Road, Evesham (UK) - 12 April 2016

Walsall band Stone Broken's rise to prominence in such a short space of time has little to do with luck and more to do with hard work, talent and a phenomenally supportive management team. This band will literally play anywhere and travel anywhere to do it. It's how it used to be before shortcuts to success through reality TV became the ideal.

The Iron Road is a sell out tonight, Okay, so it's only a small venue, but two hundred people have turned out having perhaps had their interest piqued by hearing Stone Broken's music on Planet Rock or through purchasing their excellent debut album 'All In Time'.

Being a new act, the band's set comprises of the whole of the album; all ten tracks are present in their full glory. With an enthusiasm and energy that's hard to fault, the band storm through first single 'Not Your Enemy', the chugging 'Let Me Go' and second single 'Better' in no time at all. The sound is tight and vocalist Rich Moss's vocals clear and resonant. The rest of the band – including drummer Robyn Haycock who, rather amusingly, is sat on the upholstered seat fixed to the wall that pub goers sit on – play their part.

Lead guitarist Chris Davis stands out, whether it's peeling off a technically excellent solo in 'Stay All Night' or pounding out a riff with metronomic efficiency in 'Fall Back Down', he keeps the whole thing ticking along. Clearly influenced by the likes of Alice In Chains, it's perhaps unsurprising that we are treated to 'Man In A Box' as an encore but more surprising that amongst all the Metal carnage and Nickelback influences we get a fantastic cover of The Back Street Boys 'Larger Than Life'.

This band has started its career like a greyhound out of the traps, the progression from unknowns to a position where they are recognised is one that the majority of bands can only dream of. With yet another festival appearance at Rockingham at the Trent University on the horizon, where new fans will be made despite Stone Broken's modern edge, my message to the band would be, keep doing what you're doing because it's obviously working.
