Title

Label

This album is bloody good.

This name rings a bell. Not only was it the title of a huge Alice Cooper album in the seventies, but it was also adopted by the band after Cooper left. Surely they have not risen from the grave? Well, no they haven't. What we have here is a Metal band from Sweden who are influenced by Kiss, W.A.S.P., Marilyn Manson and... Cooper (naturally). No idea how they got away with using the name. I'll tell you what though... this album is bloody good.

'I Want To See You Burn' doesn't give any immediate indication of influence and is a good solid opener, but there is a strong Manson sound to 'The Junkies Ball' – in the music, vocal and Techno synth style – and 'Brutal Planet' era Cooper on most of the other tracks.

The riff for 'Everyone's In Love With A Chemical God' is phenomenal, a definite reminder of '...Planet', while the middle eight could've been on the seventies albums. 'Why Don't You Put Up A Fight' sees vocalist Frankie Rich delivering as "The Master" would, while 'Election Day'/'President Payne' are the modern day 'Elected' – no surprises there. They don't sound anything like the original musically, again that comes from the '...Planet' era, but the concept, execution and everything else about them leaves you in no doubt their father.

'When The Light Goes Out' has a little 'Feed My Frankenstein' feel to it, and 'The Nightmare Began' doesn't need any explanation really. Of the rest, 'The Man I Am' is an up-tempo stomp which lies between both styles without really attaching itself to either and 'One' is not Metallica, Cooper or Manson but more themselves, with a nice full sound and lush keyboard orchestration. 'House Of Dreams' has a sound that wouldn't have been out of place in 'Cabaret' or 'The Rocky Horror Show' or even a My Chemical Romance album. It's definitely the quirky one on here, as well as the longest at over seven minutes.

I really like this album. None of the songs make you feel like hitting the skip button. It is very well executed and most of the songs are around the four minute mark, so don't give you time to nod off. It will be interesting to see how they interpret the songs on stage, but I can assure you, I will try to be there when they come over to find out.
